You know it as you needed it to setup printer (so open printer driver, properties, ports expand the port field as usually you can only see IP_192. Firstly, you have to know your printer TCP/IP address. The way most manufacturers do it these days is through web browser (the same one you are using to read this).

In order to 'write data' to your computer, you must give your scanner enough credentials to do that (otherwise everybody could just simply access your PC and do whatever they want). Most of these utilities are not supported when you connect it through network.
They get added there at time of installation of hardware. Alternativelly, most devices can scan via USB to computer as they support VIA scanner and you would find this under 'scanners' in your control panel. These applications authorise scanner to 'write data in your computer'. When the device is connected via USB, for scanning you'd usually use some HP application. I do not have it set up for Fax so i thought it was strange that this was the original setting. I don't understand how router's work but I thought if it recognized my printer it would perform either print or scan. I changed it from Fax HP Photosmart 7520 series (Network) to HP Photosmart 7520 series (Network) because it wasn't working. I have attached a screen print containing 2 different settings in the devices and printers, neither works. I have scanned many items from my all in one HP Photosmart 7520 all-in one printer but lately I get an error that the device cannot be found.
